Porter Research Partners With Payformance To Offer White Paper on Overcoming Healthcare Electronic Claims Hurdles

Market research and consulting firm Porter Research recently aided healthcare claim settlement
services provider Payformance Corp. in development of its recent white paper, "
Overcoming
Healthcare Electronic Claims Payment/Settlement Hurdles."
Porter Research conducted in-depth interviews with two healthcare payers utilizing
Payformance's PaySpan® Health™ electronic claims settlement solution. Its research process worked
to:
- identify the factors that went into the decision to move from a paper-based to electronic
payment solution;
- discover the specific benefits realized from implementation of PaySpan®Health; and
- understand how the use of the Payformance solution will help drive future initiatives at each
company.
According to Debbie Kenney, Vice President of Marketing at Payformance, the goal of the
research project was "to help payers clearly understand the value of moving to electronic claims
settlement - not to be confused with what clearinghouses provide with validation and transport.
These services integrate, correlate and make reconciliation much simpler for the providers.
Ultimately, it is our collective goal to take costs out of healthcare."
The two payers - Centene Corp., a fully integrated multi-state government services managed
care company; and HealthNow New York Inc., one of New York State's leading healthcare companies -
differ from one another in terms of payer type, geographic coverage and length of time using the
Payformance product. These differences provide unique insight into each client's operations and
experiences regarding PaySpan Health, allowing payers considering using PaySpan Health to
compare/contrast aspects of their own organizations to these disparate users.
The resulting 15-page paper found that for Centene and HealthNow, "the shift from paper-based
payment systems to electronic claims settlement has been a 'win' on multiple fronts."
"The study revealed that payers are not only experiencing improved ROI through reduction in
costs associated with generating and mailing paper remittance/advice, but also benefiting from
improved provider satisfaction, including transaction transparency and workflow efficiency," says

Kennedy adds that this white paper brings value to the industry. "It helps to frame the
