Porter Research Helps HCI Offer Comprehensive Snapshot of Healthcare IT Vendors

June 16, 2010

hcicover Healthcare Informatics (HCI) recently released its annual list of the Top 100 Companies in Healthcare Technology by Revenue for 2009. Featured in the magazine's June issue, the Healthcare Informatics 100 provides each company's revenue derived from healthcare IT for the past three years, mergers and acquisitions for the past two years, source of major revenue, IT solutions currently offered and the two highest levels of company executives, as well as basic contact and historical information.

The Healthcare Informatics 100 is now in its 17th year, and is the only one of its kind in the industry.

"As a professional who has worked in the healthcare IT industry for the past 25 years, I am well aware of the impact this unique list has on readers," says Cynthia Porter, President, Porter Research. "Both providers and vendors rely on the Healthcare Informatics 100 to provide an accurate picture of the state of the healthcare IT industry. Readers trust this list because they know the data has been thoroughly researched and insightfully interpreted."

Porter Research, a marketing, research and consulting services firm, partnered with ST Advisors LLC, a strategic consultancy firm, to compile, edit and review the 2009 sales figures. Porter Research worked with business partners such as sister company Billian's HealthDATA to ensure fairness in reporting, and that deserving companies were included.

"When Healthcare Informatics asked me, as both a strategic advisor for the industry and a member of its Editorial Board, to improve the development of its Top 100 List, I wanted to ensure the best market research resources available were brought to bear, as this is a high-profile list that hospitals, vendors and investors all rely on," says Ben Rooks, founder of and principal at ST Advisors. "Accordingly, I was both pleased and excited to involve Porter Research in overseeing the development of the list. I found Cynthia and her team a pleasure to work with, and learned that their reputation of quality is well deserved."

In an effort to present the most comprehensive picture of industry revenues, Porter Research and ST Advisors worked together to compile accurate financial data of companies that did not choose to disclose their sector-specific revenues. The firms sought to estimate data based on patterns of historical revenue arcs derived from industry press releases and other healthcare industry consultants. The result is a balanced approximation of those firms' influence and rankings in today's corporate healthcare information technology environment.
